They\nare the work of artist Peter Drew. His \u2018<em>Real Aussies say Welcome\u2019<\/em>\ncampaign started in Adelaide some years ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2013, Drew started pasting up\nhis posters to draw attention to Australia&#8217;s immigration issues and a direct\nresponse to the Australian government&#8217;s &#8216;Stop the Boats&#8217; campaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, as an evolution of this campaign, posters have\nprogressed to a more simplified version such as this one I saw recently in town\nhall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the series there are a variety\nof different faces. This poster here is of Monga Khan. Khan was one of\nthousands of people who applied for exemption to the White Australia Policy in\nthe 1920s. Khan was one of many cameleers, hawkers and other traders that were\ngranted exemptions because their work was essential to Australian&#8217;s growing\neconomy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peter Drew&#8217;s paste-up campaigns\nhave been drawing attention to peoples\u2019 attitude to Australian identity,\nmigration, cultural difference for many years now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year Peters book <em>Poster\nBoy<\/em> was published.
